  • An event was held at Dar tal-Kleru for all the residents residing within the five Church Homes for the Elderly within the Archdiocese of Malta, namely Casa Leone (St Julian’s), Holy Family Home (in-Naxxar), Dar Saura (ir-Rabat), Dar Sant’Anna (Senglea) and Dar tal-Kleru (B’Kara).

    The event which took place on Monday 20th August 2018 started with Mass, celebrated by Mgr Charles Cordina, at Dar tal-Kleru’s Chapel. A BBQ was then held within the surrounding grounds of the Home.

    160 residents from all the five Homes attended the event, which was organised and coordinated by Nicolette Scerri, the Activity Coordinator of the Church Homes for the Elderly together with Mons Anthony Cassar who is responsible for the running of Dar tal-Kleru.

    The event was a success, thanks to a number of volunteers and companies/organisations that sponsored the event, namely:

    • General Soft Drinks Co. Ltd. – for sponsoring all the drinks
    • CaterEssence –  for sponsoring Dar tal-Kleru’s meals
    • Police Jazz Band – for sponsoring entertainment, together with Superintendent Anthony Cassar, PC Simon Farrugia and all the band
    • Joe Aquilina, Mr Arthur Micallef, Ms Karen Camilleri and Ms Valentina Bezzina – for performing during mass and providing entertainment during the evening
    • Catholic Institute – for subsidising the transportation of the elderly residents from the four Homes to Dar tal-Kleru and back
    • Employees from the Directorate of the Church Homes for the Elderly and from the five Homes assisted before, during and after the event.

    The Directorate of the Church Homes for the Elderly organises ongoing daily activities for the residents of the five homes within and outside of the homes. Some of the events organised during 2018 were the following:

    • Visits to the President’s Palace
    • Various concerts organised throughout the year within the homes
    • Catholic Schools employees carried out voluntary work at Casa Leone
    • Visits by school children
    • Outings to various village feasts
    • Birthday Celebrations on a monthly basis
    • Themed activities for Carnival, Valentines Day, Easter, Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Grandparents Day, Christmas, etc.
    • Daily mass, daily rosary, ‘Happy Hour with Jesus’ and other prayer meetings
    • Physical exercises, crafts, singing, dancing, etc.

    Some of the forthcoming events are:

    • A Children’s party in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund shall be organised on Monday 17th September 2018, at Holy Family Home, in-Naxxar, by Remax in collaboration with the Church Homes for the Elderly.
    • Invitation by her Excellency the President of Malta, Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca for the following:
      • A picnic at the Verdala Castle, to be held on Tuesday 18th September 2018
      • A visit exclusively for the Church Home for the Elderly, to be held on the 8th October 2018
    • Sports Day, organised by the Government Elderly Department, on Wednesday 19th September 2018
    • 2018/2019 academic year school visits, from Church, Private and Government Schools.
