On Saturday, 5th October 2024, the Malta Catholic Youth Network held the annual conference, PLEXUS 24: Hear Hear, at Trident Park in Mrieħel. Around 140 youth leaders and animators dedicated a day for reflection and growth, with the theme centred on listening, particularly to God, inviting leaders to pause and discern God’s voice in their work with young people.
The talks provided insight and a reminder of the vital role of the leaders as they shape the future of the youth ministry. A keynote highlighted the importance of staying rooted in Christ through personal prayer, emphasising that ministry begins with a relationship with God. Another talk focused on discernment in youth ministry and being open to His guidance, while a session on intercession urged leaders to pray for the young people they serve, emphasizing the need for spiritual support.
The leaders were invited to participate in a session of spiritual conversation where they were divided into different groups, following a similar structure used in the current Synod of Bishops in Rome. From these spiritual conversations, the main themes that emerged were the importance of rootedness in our spiritual life and the beauty of the diversity within the Church, discussing how the upcoming Jubilee Year, Pilgrims of Hope will shape the ministries.
Representatives from organisations such as Life Network, Loop, and the Church’s Sports Commission shared about how they can offer services to local youth organisations. The conference concluded with a thanksgiving mass.
