Professor Stanley Fiorini’s latest volume, The Landed Property of the Religious Orders in Malta 1600, will be launched on Tuesday, 10th December 2024, at 6:30 pm. The event will take place at The Immacolata Oratory, Jesuits’ Church, Valletta, and will feature addresses by distinguished scholars, including Prof. Petra Caruana Dingli and Rev. Dr. Nicholas Joseph Doublet.

Prof. Fiorini’s most recent publication in the Documentary Sources of Maltese History series published by the Archdiocese of Malta, dives into the fascinating history of ecclesiastical properties in Malta. Through meticulous research into notarial documents, wills, and archival sources, Fiorini unveils the depth of Maltese society’s devotion and the complex relationship between the Church and the land. His work sheds light on religious communities’ foundations, patronage patterns, and Malta’s agrarian heritage, preserving invaluable details of toponymy and local culture. This study is a treasure for historians and a window into Malta’s spiritual and social landscape.

Stanley Fiorini, Professor Emeritus and Senior Fellow at the University of Malta has authored several publications on Maltese history, including The ‘Mandati’ Documents at the Archives of the Mdina Cathedral, Malta: 1473-1539 (1993), Mdina – The Cathedral City of Malta (1996), and Tristia ex Melitogaudo (2010). He also founded the Documentary Sources of Maltese History series, contributing to the first fourteen volumes, individually and in collaboration.
