Archbishop Charles Scicluna met with students and staff of the Minor Seminary School in Tal-Virtù on Friday and inaugurated and blessed the new turf ground. Upon his arrival, the Archbishop was welcomed by all the primary and secondary school students, currently adding up to 800, as well as the 200 members of staff.

After the inauguration, the Archbishop celebrated Mass in which students, employees and parents participated. Concelebrating with him were Fr Jimmy Bonnici, Rector of the Major Seminary; Fr Mark Ellul, the Headmaster of the Minor Seminary; Fr James Saydon, Director of the Seminary Vocations Centre; Fr Jean-Claude Schembri, the school Chaplain; and several priests who contribute to the Seminary.

In his homily, the Archbishop invited students to reflect on whether everything they wished to do in their lives would fill their hearts with love and joy. As they are contemplating their future paths, the Archbishop urged students to search and discover a vocation through which they can dedicate their lives to others. “Any vocation to which God calls you, regardless of its nature and your gifts, must be one of love, whether you become a mother, a father, a teacher, a priest, a policeman, a politician or a journalist. All these vocations entail relationships of love and service,” said the Archbishop.

Eight students out of 55 nominees were also recognised for their altruism towards their peers, as well as for demonstrating good leadership through their example.

Archbishop Charles Scicluna’s visit concluded the week of activities aimed at celebrating the values and skills of students at school and beyond organised by the Minor Seminary School. These activities included artistic, scientific, sports, linguistic, and culinary events to foster the joy of learning among students and provide them with long-lasting educational experiences. Parents of the students were also invited to these activities to gain insight into the educational environment of the Seminary school.
