The regulations for entry into Church schools have been updated since they were first published in December 2010.
Recently a decision to re-organise some of the Church’s Kindergarten schools was taken by Church School officials and the Heads of the Church Kindergarten schools. This has resulted in 32 boys and 33 girls less vacancies in Kindergarten 1 and 31 boys and 32 girls more vacancies in Kindergarten 2. Consequently, the regulations for entry into Kindergarten 1 and 2 have been updated to adapt them to the re-organization.
Also, on the advice of the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner, the names of those who apply under the Grave Humanitarian Criterion will not be published on the website www.maltadiocese.org as previously stipulated in the Regulations. Instead the application number and rank order will be published.
Paragraph 1d of the regulations, which considers pupils from a Church school without continuity, has been clarified. Previously it stated that applications from pupils of a Church school without continuity will be accepted and explained that a ballot will take place if there are not enough places. The paragraph now also states that pupils of a Church school without continuity will participate in the choice of school ballot. This was and is still stated in paragraph 13.
A new paragraph, 1.2, has been added. Some applicants according to the siblings’ and employees’ criteria may not be accepted initially in a school which has limited vacancies. However it is possible that vacancies arise, especially during the choice of school exercise. In this case these applicants are given first preference according to the hierarchy established.
Paragraph 15 of the regulations now also states that the general waiting list remains active till June 30, 2011.
A few other minor amendments have been made to the regulations for entry into Church schools since they were first published in December. The official binding version of the regulations is that published on the website www.maltadiocese.org and which carries the date of 15 January 2011 in the footer. Applicants are being given a copy of the modified regulations when they apply. All previous versions of the regulations are declared null.
Applications received on the basis of criterion 1 for Form 1 girls result in a bigger number than the places available. Consequently applications for Form 1 girls, as Other Applicants, will not be accepted as there are no more places available. A meeting for parents of girls who applied for Form 1 according to criterion 1c will be held soon. They will be duly notified. Girls will be accepted according to the regulations and a ballot will be drawn to determine those who are eligible. The rank order of the ballot will be published. If a vacancy arises the first girl on the list will be offered the place.
