The Pontifical Mission Societies, known as Uffiċċju Missjunarju, situated in Merchants’ Street in Valletta is organising an African Art Exhibition, FROM AFRICA FOR AFRICA. The main aim of this exhibition is to raise awareness about the situation in several African countries – like Tanzania, Zanzibar and Zimbabwe – where talented, but poor artists do not have the means to promote their work due to lack of money and resources. These paintings, which will be exhibited for the general public from the 22nd July till the 8th August 2013 at The Auberge d’Italie, represent the daily life in Africa.

The paintings and other unique remarkable pieces, which emerge from workshops, capture on canvas the moments of community festivity, village life, harmony with nature and family life. Vivid, and thought-provoking, these works range from the illustrative and expressive to stunningly abstract, and remind us that genius is not limited to the recognized masters of art.

Apart from giving the artists an opportunity to express their talents, buying these paintings also gives them the ability to earn a living and sustain their families.

The exhibition will be inaugurated, on Friday 19th July at The Auberge d’Italie at 7.30pm, by the Parliamentary Secretary for Culture & Local Government Dr. Jose’ A. Herrera LL.D. M.P. while Ms Charlene Vella, Assistant Lecturer at the University of Malta will introduce the exhibition.
